RALEIGH, NC MILK BATH MATERNITY SESSION| MARJORIE

I had such a good time hanging out with Hiram and Marjorie at Yates Mill Park in Raleigh, NC. Marjorie showed up in a gorgeous white maternity gown with her hair and makeup all done up! I had a white flower crown available so we made sure to take advantage of that too!

Hiram and Marjorie have been together for five years. They met at Hiram's work, and have been together ever since. They recently got engaged on a trip to Jamaica, and they are expecting a baby boy this summer! I am so excited for them!

After we went to Yates Mill Park, we came to my home and did a milk bath session. Since Hiram and Marjorie are expecting a baby boy, we thought utilizing blue and yellow in the flower selection would be appropriate. We sourced rose, hyacinths, hydrangeas, and baby's breath from Trader Joe's in Cary, NC. Everything turned out beautifully!

WHAT TO WEAR FOR YOUR FAMILY PHOTOSHOOT

A summertime family session in Durham, North Carolina

One of the questions I get asked the most is, "Tierney, what should we wear for our family photos?" and that's a great question to ask! You've invested some money into these photos, you're about to invest time as well so they need to be perfect! Well today, I am going to give you some helpful tips and tricks for picking out the perfect outfits for family photographs!

 1. Feel Free to Bring Along Two Outfits

I recommend bring along a more formal outfit as well as a casual one! For the formal outfit for women, I always recommend a flowy maxi dress or skirt. This will give your photos such a soft, feminine look and it adds SO MUCH MOVEMENT to the photographs too! For guys, I recommend a dressing up. If your wife is wearing a more formal dress, you should probably wear suit or at least a nice collared shirt with a tie. I also recommend close toed shoes (particularly for guys)

Tip for women: Wear something that will accentuate your waistline, and that will give you shape. Right now, oversized sweaters, blouses, dresses are very in, but they take away from your figure and don't create flattering pictures.

2. Pick a color scheme and stick with it!

I recommend picking two-three colors for outfits. Neutrals such as blush, tans, link pinks, faint blues and teals, creams, grays and whites will always result in more of a light and airy look to your images. I am also a big fan of pastels! These colors photograph softer and more classically! I highly recommend staying from everyone wearing a black or white top.The goal is COORDINATING outfits instead of MATCHING! If one person is wearing white that is fine, but the whole family showing up in white buttons and dark wash jeans may not be the best. Plus, your family's personality can really shine through with your outfits!

3. Be mindful of patterns!

I'm not saying don't wear patterns at all, but be mindful of the ones you do choose to wear. It's best to avoid wearing patterns that are smaller then a dime as these patterns create very odd digital effects in the camera. I also recommend not wearing graphic tees or anything with writing on it.

4. Wear something that makes you feel comfortable!

Ladies, I recommend that you wear something that flatters the parts of you that you love the most and also allows you to be extremely confident! If you are uncomfortable when you look in the mirror (having to suck in and only like the way you look from one angle), then that outfit probably isn't the best for these photographs. I want you to feel totally confident and relaxed at your session If you're loving your outfit and feeling confident in it, you'll seriously love your photographs that much more!

APEX, NC LIFESTYLE NEWBORN SESSION| FELICITY

Carrie and Nate met while they were both living in Washington DC through an online dating site. They went to trivia night for their first date ,and later got engaged while they were hiking in Virginia. Nate proposed with his nanny's wedding ring ( Yay for family heirlooms!). They were married in April 2015, and now they're embarking on the sweet journey of parenthood. Felicity's name is so special too as she is named for Carrie and Nate's grandparents. I love the sentiment of that!

I met Carrie and Nate through a past client of mine, so when they reached out about a lifestyle newborn session I was so stoked! Baby Felicity did an AMAZING job on her newborn session! She slept almost the entire time and was just way too cute!
